Loving God or His Gifts?

My indwelling sin stands in the way of my full satisfaction in God. It opposes and perverts my pursuit of God. It opposes by making other things look more desirable than God. And it perverts by making me think I am pursuing joy in God when, in fact, I am in love with his gifts.

~ John Piper, When I Don't Desire God, p. 14

How easy it is for me to lose my focus in this area, for God's gifts are so amazing. I must learn more of my God, and take care of any sin in my life, so my first response to His gifts would be to give Him praise. My life verse has been Psalm 34:1 "I will bless the Lord at all times His praise shall continually be in my mouth." May He be glorified in my responses to His Goodness in my life. Thanks for another reminder!

I think that it's so easy to do this because His gifts often are seen, tangible, or least imaginable. But God Himself is unseen, intangible and even unimaginable! That's why I think that loving God more than His gifts is a matter of faith. O God, increase my faith!

Sorry for keeping you in the dark on this one! Actually, I started this blog kind of on a fluke. I'll tell you the story some time if you are interested. Thanks for stopping by and for your comment.
